Migration and Integration

This multi-disciplinary, service-learning study-abroad course gives undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to learn about Europe’s migration and integration challenges through the lens of southern Germany. This study-abroad trip to Munich will engage students with the social and political complexity of the integration of migrants in Germany.

The service-learning component of this study-abroad course will allow students to actively participate in current integration processes in the field. Students will shadow and assist local non-profit, and volunteer groups and state agencies in their efforts to guide migrants and refugees through the various stages of the integration process.

Additionally, students will attend seminars and workshops to engage with local think tanks, state and non-state actors and social justice activists such as Munich’s Black Lives Matter movement and Munich’s Afghan community to learn about the historical, political, and philosophical context, surrounding Europe’s struggle with multi-culturalism and the governance of global mobility.
