Fürstenfeldbruck

 Our first day working with the Fürstenfeldbruck Caritas Center was nothing short of eye-opening to myself and the rest of my group. We were fortunate enough to be assigned a particular camp on a former military base where as many as a thousand incoming migrants can be sheltered. The space is kept private and guarded to protect those living there, and with that we were not allowed to take pictures nor relay the sensitive information we were given.  

A Caritas center such as the one we worked with in Fürstenfeldbruck is funded largely by religious associations in tandem with some government assistance. The presence of religion in German government is much more than in the United States, but I can personally attest that religion was never a topic pushed on any incoming migrants nor required to receive their assistance. Those who work at this facility (seen in the attached picture) provide asylum seekers guidance in applying for citizenship in Germany, as well as general help services like translating mail or referrals to medical services.  

These workers at Fürstenfeldbruck immediately demonstrated their passion, unrelenting work ethic, and devotion to helping others. Those who are not passionate about helping others do not survive in a job like theirs.
